The Altai Mountains sit dead center on the Eurasian Continent.<\/strong> The earliest written records\u00a0 of skiing (from Chinese histories over 2000 years ago) refer to skiers hunting in the Altai Mountains . Skiing\u2019s place of origin long predates written records, going back perhaps 10,ooo years and remains a mystery. The Altai\/ Lake Baikal region is considered one of the likely places where skis were first developed.<\/p>
